Choking

Step Action
1 Check mouth — remove visible object if possible (do NOT blind finger sweep)
If conscious:
2 5 back blows — heel of hand between shoulder blades, face down on forearm
3 5 chest thrusts — 2 fingers on breastbone
4 Alternate back blows and chest thrusts until object is cleared
If unconscious:
5 Call 000 immediately
6 Begin CPR (see below)

CPR

Under 1 year:

Step Action
1 Place on firm flat surface
2 30 compressions — 2 fingers on lower half of breastbone, compress 1/3 depth of chest
3 2 rescue breaths — cover mouth AND nose, gentle puffs
4 Continue 30:2 until help arrives

1–8 years:

Step Action
1 Place on firm flat surface
2 30 compressions — heel of 1 hand on lower half of breastbone, compress 1/3 depth
3 2 rescue breaths — tilt head, lift chin, pinch nose, seal mouth
4 Continue 30:2 until help arrives

Burns

Step Action
1 Cool — running water for 20 minutes (not ice)
2 Remove — clothing/jewellery near burn (not if stuck)
3 Cover — loosely with cling wrap or clean dressing
4 Seek medical help if: larger than a 20c coin, on face/hands/genitals, blistered, or deep

Allergic Reaction

Signs: Hives, swelling (face/lips/tongue), difficulty breathing, vomiting

Mild Antihistamine — Zyrtec 2.5ml (1–2yr)
Severe (anaphylaxis) EpiPen Jr if prescribed
